Books in Transit Discussion Group

Books in Transit Discussion Group bus with books

National RTAP’s Books in Transit Discussion Group is a fun way to discuss transit topics with your peers.  Every winter and summer we read a different novel or memoir about buses, riders, and drivers, discuss the book themes, and explore how they relate to our own transit practice.  Meetings take place on Zoom, but participants are welcome to arrange to come to the National RTAP headquarters in Woburn, Massachusetts if they would like to.  Many times, the authors will join the book discussion group!

Books we have read include:

  • The Accidental Bus Driver by Thomas Beaumont
  • Bus People: 30 Days on the Road with America’s Nomads by Mike Pentecost
  • Buses are a Comin ': Memoir of a Freedom Rider by Charles Person
  • I was Told It Would be Easier by Abbi Waxman
  • The Lost Ticket by Freya Sampson
  • The New Life by Orhan Pamuk
  • A Purposeful Path: How Far Can You Go with $30, a Bus Ticket, and a Dream? by Casey Beaumier, SJ
  • Riding the Bus with my Sister: A True Life Journey by Rachel Simon
  • Set my Heart to Five by Simon Stephenson
  • The Wayward Bus by John Steinbeck
