Consolidation of Rural Public Transportation Services Guidebook

NCHRP's Consolidation of Rural Public Transportation Services Guidebook describes findings and lessons learned from an examination of four case study consolidation efforts, North Central Regional Transit District, New Mexico, Western Piedmont Regional Transit Authority, North Carolina, Southeast Vermont Transit, Vermont and Crawford Area Transportation Authority, Pennsylvania. The research team also conducted a literature review and analyzed data from the National Transit Database (NTD) and National RTAP surveys of rural transit providers to provide an overview of rural transit consolidation efforts and recommendations toward future consolidation.

Content Management Systems and Website Practices

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has released a research synthesis on Content Management Systems and Website Practices that presents the results of a survey distributed to the members of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Committee on Transportation Communications and to selected Minnesota state agencies about their use of content management systems (CMS), such as SharePoint or Drupal.  The synthesis includes findings on costs, funding, processes, workflows and governance of CMS.

National RTAP and the National Center for Mobility Management (NCMM) held a webinar on March 25, 2020 about the fundamentals of two-variable cost allocation, how to use National RTAP's Cost Allocation Calculator, and ways to utilize the results for data reporting, pricing, and planning of services. The demonstration showed how the Calculator generates fully allocated costs and metrics by route, travel mode, funding source, jurisdiction, and shared-ride services. The webinar included panelists with perspectives from rural transit agencies on how the Calculator is beneficial for their organizations.
