The manual contains background, statistics, and graphics on the various types of public transportation, and it provides a framework for measuring transit availability, comfort, and convenience from the passenger and transit provider points of view. The manual includes quantitative techniques for calculating the capacity and other operational characteristics of bus and demand-responsive transit services and stops, stations, and terminals.

Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Kittleson and Associates provide best practices and recommendations for preparing transit development plans (TDPs) in this Transit Development Plan Guidebook.  The guide draws on ODOT's own experiences and the policies, procedures, and experiences of transit providers and other transportation agencies nationwide.  The guidebook covers getting started, vision and goals, stakeholder involvement, needs assessment, finance, implementation, evaluation and documentation.  Also included are surveys that can be used to obtain data for TDPs.

During this webinar held on November 29, Erwin Reitsma of Wyoming Independent Living (WIL) and Jill Stedem of OATS Transit in Missouri presented about common health issues among transit drivers and other staff, the impact on agencies, and the benefits of wellness programs.  Topics covered included improving worker health, exercise, getting enough sleep, eating well, drinking more water and less caffeine, taking breaks to stretch, and managing stress.  The webinar also provided best practices for employee wellness programs, such as competitions, financial incentives, partnering with local sponsors, and making it fun. 

Transit Increases On-Demand Options for Wheelchair Users
