About Timber Trails' Bus Service

  • We are Rural Public Transit; just a little different than the buses and service you see in larger cities. People of every age ride our buses for all sorts’ of reasons. We take people shopping, visiting, to see doctors and get physical therapy; to Bible studies and to restaurants for dinner. Little ones ride the buses to pre-school and back to daycare. Moms & Dads take their kids to the library and the museums. It’s for everyone!

  • We are funded through MN/DOT. MN/DOT contracts with Kanabec County to provide public transit service in Kanabec and Mille Lacs County. About 85% of the cost of operating the service comes from MN/DOT. That 85% subsidy allows us to keep fares very affordable. The remaining 15% is our local match.   A significant portion of that 15% comes right from the fareboxes on the buses. Kanabec and Mille Lacs County financially support the service. Cites like Mora and Milaca support the bus service through donations. The best way that you can help is to ride the bus!

  • What makes us successful? Our funding and our growth depend on the number of riders using the buses. We want to make sure we are here to serve the community, and to grow with it into the future. Our drivers track the number of stops riders make and those statistics become the bench marks used to determine funding levels, expansion possibilities and our very survival.
