FAQ

FAQs

Question Are there any specific Tribal Resources?
Answer Yes, in 2006, the Federal Transit Association (FTA) tasked National RTAP to provide training to tribal transit operators for federally recognized tribes as part of the Tribal Transit Grant Program authorized under section 5311 (c) “Non-urbanized Transit” formula grant program and the Public Transportation on Indian Reservations (5311(c)) grant program. Even non-federally recognized tribes may request 5311 grant funds from their home state. The Conference Report adopts Senate provision setting aside a portion of funding each year for Indian tribes. This set-aside is not meant to replace or reduce funds that Indian tribes receive from States through the Section 5311 program.
Question Are there specific resources for rural transit operators who serve the special needs community?
Answer Yes, FTA grant program 5310 is intended for assisting operators who serve the elderly and special needs passengers. The eligible sub-recipients for Section 5310 funds are: a) private non-profit organizations; b) governmental authorities that certify to the chief executive officer of the State that no non-profit corporations or associations are readily available in an area to provide the service; and c) governmental authorities approved by the State to coordinate services for elderly individuals and individuals with disabilities. 5310 grant recipients are not excluded from seeking funds from grant 5311. FTA Circular 9070 details article 5310 and can be found in the resource section of this website as well as here.

Question Can I make copies of your products?
Answer National RTAP invites you to produce as many copies of any RTAP training materials as you may need. This includes the text and images in the modules as well as any multimedia supplements. 17 USC § 105 states, "Copyright protection … is not available for any work of the United States Government, but the United States is not precluded from receiving and holding copyrights transferred to it by assignment, bequest, or otherwise." You may also download materials directly from our resource library.
Question How can I find the RTAP representative for my state?
Answer Links to each state’s RTAP or Department of Transportation website can be found on the “links” section of our website. Once you click on your specific state, you will be able to view your state's contact information including the name of your state’s RTAP representative, their business address, phone and email address where applicable.
Question How many copies can I get for free?
Answer You may receive up to 100 copies of any module free of charge. This includes DVDs and CD roms. Any order requesting over 100 copies of any module will be charged only the cost of reprinting and shipping (variable dependant on number of pages, binding process and ink requirements). However, recipients of training materials may make copies as needed. You may also download materials directly from our resource library.
