Tribal Scholarship Guidelines

Introduction: Thank you for your interest in attending the 5th National RTAP Technical Assistance Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on December 3-6, 2023. 

National RTAP, through the Federal Transit Administration, is pleased to be able to offer a limited number of scholarships to tribal programs and transit affiliates.

Qualifications: To qualify for a scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a transit professional who provides transit on or near a Federally recognized Indian Tribe or Alaskan Native Village.

2. Work with an agency that is a recent recipient of a 5311 or 5311c grant (within past three years).

3. Have agency approval to attend the conference.

4. Have registered for the conference.

5. Have completed this Scholarship Application Form by November 17, 2023

Applications:

1. The application form is provided at the end of these guidelines. 

2. A letter from your manager or Board granting you permission to attend the conference must accompany this application (see Upload area below).

2. Applications will not be accepted after November 17, 2023. The following are allowable costs in a scholarship request:

  • Registration
  • Lodging at Conference Hotel or an approved overflow facility at the single rate charge
  • Airfare (using the lowest fare option)
  • Parking
  • Ground transportation to/from airports
  • Mileage reimbursement (if using personal car at $0.655)
  • Miscellaneous expenses (with approved explanation)
  • Rental car expenses are typically not eligible for reimbursement.

Travel Arrangements: The applicant is responsible for making all registration and travel arrangements.

Awards: 

The conference scholarship committee will review all applications. An email either approving, amending or denying the request will be provided within 10 days. Scholarship awards will be based upon need and estimated costs.

Reimbursement: 

1. Scholarship funds are paid on a reimbursement basis including registration fees. No advanced payments will be made.

2. The recipient must file a travel expense report within 60 days of attending the conference. Receipts or copies of receipts must be included with the expense report.

3. We will reimburse you after you have attended the conference and submitted your expense report.

4. Reimbursement will be per the completed expense report and cannot exceed the estimate provided in the Scholarship Application Form.

5. If you are awarded a scholarship, an expense report will be sent to you.
