National RTAP Announces New Executive Director

May 12, 2010, Waltham, MA - National RTAP is pleased to announce our new Executive Director, Patricia Monahan. Patti Monahan joins National RTAP from TranSystems Corporation, where she was a Senior Transportation Planner. During her tenure at TranSystems and its predecessor firm, Multisystems, she specialized in assisting clients with the planning and implementation of community transportation, ADA and other paratransit services, and human service transportation coordination.

As a consultant, Patti managed or participated in a number of projects focused on issues of concern to small urban and rural transportation providers, including ADA compliance and other services for persons with disabilities, transportation coordination and development of coordinated plans, mobility management, needs assessment, and design and implementation of services. 
Prior to her position with TranSystems, Patti was Assistant General Manager for Special Services at the Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority in Massachusetts, where she oversaw the delivery of MVRTA’s ADA paratransit service and transportation for seniors and human service agency clients. As a Program Manager at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), Patti administered federal and state capital and operating assistance programs, including state contract assistance, the Regional Transit Authority Capital Assistance Program (RTACAP), and Section 5311, and oversaw the state’s RTAP program. 
Patti holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Studies from Boston University and Master of City and Regional Planning degree from the Harvard Kennedy School. 
National RTAP is a program of the Federal Transit Administration administered by the Neponset Valley Transportation Management Association and serves as the national arm for the Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP). The mission of National RTAP is to improve the mobility of all rural, small urban and tribal communities across the country through technical assistance. Since its inception in 1987 National RTAP has developed and distributed training materials, provided technical assistance, generated reports, published best practices, conducted research and offered Peer Assistance with the goal of improved mobility for the millions of Americans living in communities with populations under 50,000.
